Description

The Huautla strain of psilocybin mushroom spores we carry at Westlandpsychedelics.net are fully authentic—and that’s a pretty big deal, because this particular strain of magic mushrooms played a huge role in the history of psychedelics in the United States.

This spore strain is a must-have for any amateur microscopist interested in not only exploring the history of cubensis mushrooms, but also expanding their taxonomy skills. The Huautla spore strain is from the Oaxaca region of Mexico, like many other popular strains. However, there’s something a little special about this one…

A Strain From Huautla de Jiménez, the Town R. Gordon Wasson Visited

This spore strain is from the region visited by the famous ethnomycologist R. Gordon Wasson, known for his famous article in Life magazine that ultimately introduced the western world to psychoactive fungi.

After Wasson’s article came out in Life, it’s rumored that a pilgrimage of sorts was started. Famous musicians like Bob Dylan and John Lennon are said to have visited the same town (then a village) as Wasson, so that they too could experience the sacred mushroom ceremony lead by the Mazatec shaman María Sabina.

It’s a fascinating story—and it makes studying this spore strain a real treat.

Working With Huautla Psilocybin Mushroom Spores in Your Amateur Microscopy Lab

Huautla spores, sometimes referred to as Oaxaca spores, are a favorite of amateur microscopists for reasons beyond their historical relevance (although that certainly does add to the fun of studying them).

These spores are excellent to work with in the lab for microscopists interested in studying the earliest stage of fungal development—particularly for mushrooms that have properties that make the mycelium and fruiting bodies quite tough and resistant to contamination.

In the wild, the mature Huautla mushroom has a yellowish-brown cap, a long and thick, pale-colored stem, and displays a blue-green coloration when bruised. Mycologists have observed that the gills will become nearly black at maturity, and the spores themselves are a deep purple color.
